I am Light (2022)

"I am Light" was composed for Cincinnati Song Initiative's 2023 songSLAM competition. Beginning my first year of college, I had a lot of doubt in my ability as a musician and composer. Being placed in an environment such as a conservatory can breed feelings of rivalry, jealousy, and ineptitude. Leah and I, having met in our piano skills class, discussed a lot of these fears and decided to create this piece around them. It follows the emotion of an artist, seeing everyone around them succeed, yet feeling like they don't have that spark to bring them to the top. They realize that there is nothing outside of their own abilities holding them back, and that they were always worthy of success. They just have to strive for it.
